Don't get us wrong.
We think David Blaine's abilities are outstanding.
Although we're not really focusing about his magic abilities but that's
okay, he isn't either.
We're amazed at the publicity he can produce by remaining in one place for
long periods of time: frozen in a block of ice; standing on top of a pillar;
living inside a glass box; buried in a glass coffin beneath New York's streets; and now floating (sort
of) inside a glass bubble.
When compared with the stunts of other magicians, his passive approach
stands in stark contrast.
Consider Houdini writhing and straining against the constraints of a
straight-jacket, ropes, or irons. Or
perhaps a more recent contrast would be Criss Angel's very kinetic stunts and illusions.

Quinlan's Inside Magic Fave Angelo Stagnaro is
just about finished with his very impressive Northeast Lecture Tour.
Mr. Stagnaro is teaching first-class mentalism and cold reading. We're
convinced there are many who do mentalism and teach mentalism but we can count
on our woodshop deformed paw the number of professionals who know of what they
speak.
It seems mentalism -- our favorite discipline -- has a very low barrier to
entry.
Just about anyone can buy the props necessary to do a "psychic
trick" or "read minds" or "improperly use quotations."
But there are very few who carry the art to the next level -- who make it seem
more mentalism than trick.

We
are delighted to pass along the good word on the long but steady progress of Chris
Cochrane. You may recall Mr. Cochrane - organizer of the Houdini Days Festival
in Appleton , Wisconsin - was seriously injured in an automobile accident on the
last day of the last festival.
Mr. Cochrane truly loves magic and is one of the great people in our business.
We continue to keep him and his family in our prayers. |

Industry insider Friday Morning Quarterback Album Report ("FMQB") reports Criss Angel and the lead singer of Godsmack, Sully Erna, are working on a new theme song for his A&E Series Mindfreak.
The pair are reworking the song for Angel's forthcoming album.
"The theme song was more electronic, more Ministry, and Criss wanted to make it more power and rock," Erna told Billboard.com.
Erna also will make an appearance on Mindfreak during the new season, which debuts May 31."
We'll see if we can get a sample/demo of the song before it hits the stores. We'll do it legally, of course.
Don't send us links to scarfed MP3's.

Joe Harper may be just 14 years-old but he has already racked up more accolades and awards than your average internet magic journalist. That isn't saying much for the young man but that is a function of our limited comparison. Paul Daniels has complimented Mr. Harper and that takes him out of our realm by 6 x 1023 degrees of ability.
His story appears in Driffield Today
Mr. Harper and his father worked to assemble, rehearse, and polish a competition act in time for the Northern Magic Circle's Easter Parade. The young man developed the ten minute routine with five effects, timed script, and enthusiasm.

From the alt.magic online news group we hear Lee Warren and composer Raymond Yiu are busy preparing for the premiere of an opera based on the life of magician Chung Ling Soo.
Writes Mr. Warren:
The opera's London premiere is at the Almeida Theatre in Islington on the 1st, 2nd and 7th of July. It would be great if magicians would come to see it. About 70 per cent of seats are already sold, but you can check availability on the Almeida's website - www.almedia.co.uk
