Award-winning Las Vegas magician Rick Thomas has a day job.
He performs three shows a day at The Orleans Hotel and Casino just off the Strip.
You would think that would be enough.
Apparently it is not nearly enough.
We received an email invitation from Mr. Thomas to check out a new business venture. Mr. Thomas wrote the venture involved a secret uncovered at his brand new website.
This site goes beyond my show and shares a secret that needs to be told to the whole world; a secret that if followed will change your life forever. I put all of the resources that made my show a success in Vegas into a project to help your dreams come true.
We followed the link to a very well-constructed site inviting us to Discover Mangosteen.
We thought he meant Mangee O'Steen. Mr. O'Steen is a well-known agent for magicians. Our spirits lifted. Finally we would have a chance to make it to the big time. We would get into that exclusive little club of the elite magicians. The special little "we have competence and ability and an original act" club.
No. Mangosteen is a fruit from which fruit drinks are made for general consumption.
Mr. Thomas explained his offer in two parts. The first features just the magician and his famous tigers. He tells us about his travels and his impressions of the the exotic mangosteen.
He suggested, appropriately, we should hold fast to our dreams and enhance our ability to convert our dreams into reality through mangosteen juice.
Actually he did not say it just like that.
He introduced the
concept of finding a niche that would allow one to work and help others
while deriving satisfaction and remuneration.
No, that was not the message.
It is hard to remember exactly but it was sincere and typical of Mr. Thomas, filled with encouragement and charisma.
Perhaps we do not recall his introduction because the second half of
the video presentation (it will take a while to download the various
segments so be patient) took us from the good thoughts and positive
reinforcement of Mr. Thomas to a hard sell from a very young man about
a multi-level marketing plan.
Fortunately, we were in a position to enter into the deal at the ground floor.
We still have a garage filled with soap products from our last MLM
business. We started at the ground floor, alienated our friends and
family, and remained firmly on the ground floor.
We tried to be fair and listen to the offer carefully. We would not
prejudge the offer. Perhaps it was opportunity knocking -- or maybe we
were shaking from having too much or not enough Diet Coke and powdered
doughnuts. It is so hard to tell.
Perhaps this is exactly the deal for you. Unfortunately, we will have to pass -- we could see the future and it was not pretty.
As a dealer, you are required to buy a certain number of the juice performance drink each month.
That means -- due to our inability to sell anything to anyone at
anytime -- we would have a garage filled with soap products and energy
drink. Just think if those two products mixed through some horrible
accident: a foamy red river of high-energy and nutrient enriched
bubbles washing away (but without soapy build-up or phosphates) our
well-toiled turf.
We cannot take the risk. Our insurance specifically prohibits exactly such a disaster.

We figure if Mr. Thomas is involved with the program, it must be legitimate and worth a look.
