Quinlan's Inside Magic Favorites Debbie and Tom O'Carroll have been featured vividly on these pages over the years. And yet their career continues to flourish.
In fact, this weekend, February 4th, The Irish Cultural Center hosts the couple in the beautifully appointed Elms Alumnae Library at Elms College.
Ms. O'Carroll studied dramatic arts at Emerson College and at Lesley College. Her studies culminated in a master's degree and is part of Ms. O'Carroll's very successful career in children's theater.
In 1997 the couple won a very prestigious commendation from the Munster Society of Magicians in Ireland.
[We note that despite our pure-bred Irish heritage, we have yet to receive such an award. We did receive a note from one group of magicians in Cork asking for prompt payment for items a visiting magician would normally expect to take home as gifts or souvenirs of his journey.
We admit we did bring home a few things such as: beer glasses; beer coasters; some soap and shampoo from the bed and breakfast; lighting fixtures; a towel rack; a frayed power cord previously attached to the room's television which was in turn bolted to our wall; and a racing dog from nearby Curraheen Park.]
Mr. O'Carroll is from Dublin, Ireland, with 30 years of experience performing and educating audiences with history, folklore, songs, and music. They are a perfect fit says Ms. O'Carroll, the stories of her Irish Magic Show are a natural blend of telling tales and making magic. "Most of these stories have a magical element to them, so it fits to do some magic with them. Magic is a fun way to help the kids learn and to get them to think creatively."
