The Canadian Association of Magicians ("CAM") met this weekend and today's Waterloo Record (Canada) has great coverage.
CAM includes magicians from the U.S. and Canada and boasts a current membership role of over 350 magicians. The article profiles Joan Caesar, founder and current president of the organization, and the incomparable comedic performer David Merry.
Ms. Caesar has "been under the spell" of magic for about 20 years. She studied and read about the subject to help her young son.
"When he was three, my son was crazy about magic and I wanted to be able to teach him," Ms. Caesar said Saturday in Kitchener, Ontario.
"I realized how much I loved it. I love making kids happy. I love surprising them, and seeing their faces when they are fascinated."
The passion grew and so did her organization.
David Merry is the virtuoso of comedy magic. His energy level is fascinating, almost scary. If you have seen his act (and he performs more than 250 shows a year) you need no further explanation. If you haven't, no explanation will suffice.
Mr. Merry told reporters he enjoys making people laugh have a good time. People do laugh and have a good time when they see his show so that works out as a nearly perfect job for the young man.
As tempted as we are to write some of his great lines in this article, we exercise our commendable restraint. We won't steal Mr. Merry's thunder. The former Stand-Up Performer of the Year and CAM Comedy Magician Nominee is a great guy on and off the stage. That's a rare combination. - Provided by InsideMagic |
