The Daily Echo (UK) proudly proclaims the success of young Ben Farrar - this year's The Magic Circle's Young Magician of the Year.
Mr. Farrar is a mere 16 -- the contest permits magicians up to 18 years-old -- but demonstrated the poise and skills necessary to win. The Magic Circle holds the competition every two years.
Mr. Farrar goes by the stage name of Ben Hart and is a student about to enter his "A-Levels at Peter Symonds College in September studying biology, chemistry, psychology and drama and theatre studies."
We have no idea what A-Levels are but we loved The A-Team so we figure it has to be a good thing.
Mr. Farrar a/k/a Mr. Hart, said he was surprised to win. "It was a shock. It is a very prestigious title. I have always found magic interesting. I like the interaction with people, in a nice way trying to fool them, yet giving them enjoyment."
So what are his goals? Does he hope to one day be a magic blog writer with a cynical but selfish outlook on life?
Surprisingly, he is not leaning towards magic blogging.
"I would like to be a professional. I like Derren Brown. He has put a new spin on magic."
Mr. Farrar a/k/a Mr. Hart started with a Paul Daniels' Magic Set just eight-years-ago.
From the press accounts, it appears he performed some pretty neat stuff:
[His act] did not actually include a rabbit but did involve a floating light which mysteriously rose out of a briefcase. An apparently endless stream of salt poured from his hands and the flex from his light bulb holder took on a life of its own as it danced around his body.
The judges said: "This competition was of an extremely high standard but Ben's combination of skill, charm and entertainment value ensured that he became a worthy winner."
Congratulations to Mr. Farrar a/k/a Mr. Hart on a great win and we look forward to seeing you perform live one day. We also hope "A-Levels" are good things and not code for some horribly tragic, but irresistible force, into which a young person is drawn to satisfy an alien creature's seemingly insatiable appetite.
But if A-Levels are a process of making young magicians into Alien Chow, we wish you the best of luck and are happy you have plenty of salt for just such an occasion. Perhaps the alien will be similar to a slug and the salt shaker trick will be his undoing.
